An estimated 1.8 million children still work in the cocoa industry, some of whom work in deplorable conditions. The 10 Campaign is working to eliminate child labour in the cocoa-industries of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, where two-thirds of the world’s cocoa is grown. As a member of the 10 Campaign, Fairfood International is launching the Bittersweet photo contest to raise awareness for these issues.
The brain-child of a group of social development students, from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands, the Bittersweet photo contest is asking the public to love chocolate and stop child labour.
Snap-happy contestants: please grab some fair and ethically produced chocolate, your cameras, and submit your most creative photos to us at www.fairfood.org/bittersweet. The lucky winner will be rewarded with fair products worth €50!
Entries open on the 17th of January and close on the 14th of February, 2012.
