The Research Department of Fairfood is currently recruiting for the position of:

Researcher Land of Promise Project

Department
The Research Department is Fairfood’s centre of knowledge. The department collects and provides up-to-date information and knowledge concerning global trends and developments in the food industry, sustainability certifications and best practices, fairness issues, as well as commodity and corporate sustainability analysis. The Research Department mainly plays a supportive role towards the Advocacy and Communications Departments and collaborates with an international network of knowledge partners. The Land of Promise research project incorporates aspects from each of the core research projects with a focus on improving the sustainability of the pineapple industry.

Function
As a Researcher for the Land of Promise project you will either create reports on some of the major problems and/or major companies within the pineapple industry as they relate to issues included in Fairfood’s Sustainability Agenda (FSA). As part of your research you will also identify and contact experts in the field to get information and feedback from them.

Your tasks, if researching a particular sustainability issue, will focus on writing in-depth reports to explain the most pressing issues in the production, sourcing and trade of pineapple products. You will collect facts and data related to issues like income insecurity, freedom of association, or harmful agricultural practices.

If analyzing companies, you will spend a lot of time coordinating with the knowledge of other projects within the research department. Through this you will develop a knowledge base focused on assessing the sustainability performance of companies in close connection with the expertise of Fairfood’s Fairness Issues, Sector, and Solutions projects.

Your competences
You are studying at or have graduated from a higher education institution (HBO) or university or have acquired an equivalent level of development in working and thinking through professional experience. A degree in Development studies, Environmental or Economic studies is advantageous but not essential.

You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (other languages such as Spanish, French, or Filipino are a plus, but not required). You are able to work well independently and within a team. Knowledge of international trade, sustainability, supply chains and/or the food and beverage industry as well as corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an asset. To be successful in this position you will be enterprising, curious, critical and objective. You will also need to be result driven and quality oriented. Obviously, you have affinity with Fairfood’s objectives.

What do we offer?
This is an unpaid position suitable as an internship to obtain work experience in both this particular field and at an NGO. We offer a versatile position within a young international organisation. You will have the freedom and opportunity to continue developing yourself and achieve tangible results. We value our employees and fully recognise that flexibility of working hours might be important for you. We do expect, however, that you will work a minimum of sixteen hours a week for a period of three months. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Interested?
If you recognise yourself in this outline and have seen your core qualities detailed above, we would like to meet you! If interested, please send your letter of motivation and CV to Darcie Renn, Manager Land of Promise Research: darcie.renn@fairfood.org or +31 6 2724 2925.
