Congratulations Team Fairfood!

On the 23^rd of September, a team of 20 participants finished the full 10 miles at the Dam tot Damloop, the biggest running event in the Netherlands.

We would like to give a big thank you to our runners who collectively raised thousands of euros in donations. Thank you!

It was a memorable day with perfect weather for running. Thousands of enthusiastic spectators created a unique atmosphere along the track which started in the historical centre of Amsterdamand finished in the neighboring town of Zaandam.

With much anticipation, we are looking forward to running again next year.

Why did we run?

After the event, Fairfood International started tackling some of the issues that the poultry industry is facing, issues such as the abhorrent living conditions in which broiler chickens are subjected to, by talking to two of the world’s largest chicken producers. The demand for chicken meat is now so high that production companies pressure chicken farmers to ‘grow’ their chickens at a rate which has proved to be unsustainable. Almost all industrially raised chickens live in barren, overcrowded sheds, prime breeding grounds for disease and discontent. With the funds that our runners raised, we are advocating for a great improvement in animal welfare on chicken farms, to benefit chickens, farmers and consumers alike.
