Stone-Buhr

Stone-Buhr is a wheat flour producer, headquartered in San Francisco, with its main operations in the Pacific Northwest (United States). They focus on locally-produced, sustainable wheat that is supplied by family farms dedicated to sustainable farming practices that have been certified by the Food Alliance. Stone-Buhr even has a short film that describes their model in greater detail.

Stone-Buhr was first opened in 1908 in Seattle, Washington, and was later acquired by Unilever.

Fairfood and Stone-Buhr
Due to the fact that Fairfood International has only recently expanded to the US, we have only just begun a dialogue with Stone-Buhr, but so far it has been very constructive. Stone-Buhr appears to be firmly committed to continually improving the sustainability of its flour.

Current status
We will continue our dialogue with Stone-Buhr, and work with them on improving the overall sustainability of the wheat industry in the US. To this end, they have a number of upcoming meetings scheduled – including a likely visit to our Amsterdam headquarters by the CEO of Stone-Buhr.
