What is Fairfood?
Fairfood is an international non-profit campaign and lobby organisation, which prompts the food and beverage industry to make its production and trade more sustainable. In this way Fairfood contributes to the fight against hunger and poverty across the globe.

Research
The Research department is Fairfood’s centre of knowledge. The department collects and organizes up-to-date information and knowledge concerning global trade, food and beverage production. The central focus of the department is this research, which leads to Fairfood’s annual shopping guide with products which Fairfood advises consumers to ‘buy’ or ’Don’t buy’. The department is responsible for five projects: Fairness Criteria, Sector Analysis, Product Analysis, Assurance and Solution Analysis. The projects are led by six paid Project Leaders, each with the help of two to six unpaid Project Assistants.

Fairfood tries to stimulate companies to promote the sustainability of their products. The two projects Solutions Analysis (General and In-depth) contribute to that goal by examining good practices and initiatives and by assessing whether these can be used by companies as solutions for increased sustainability. The project Solution Analysis In-depth focuses on solutions for Fairfood’s current campaigns on soy and fruit.

What are the responsibilities of the Project Assistant Solution Analysis In-depth?
As a project assistant for Solutions Analysis In-depth you are expected to make a thorough analysis of one or several solutions for fruit or soy. A possible solution can be a certification system or label, a multi-stakeholder platform, a public-private initiative or a good practice of a company. Generally, in Fairfood, project assistants carry out their primary responsibilities by means of desk research and conversations with specialists. As Project Assistant Solution Analysis In-depth you will -amongst other responsibilities assigned by your Project Leader- be expected to:

  • Collect general information regarding a certain solution on fruit or soy
  • Describe examples of good practices in fruit or soy production chains
  • Make a SWOT-analysis of the solution.
  • Write a comprehensive report on the required information.
  • Update previously prepared reports on solutions in the fruit or soy sector.

As a project assistant you investigate to what extent the solution addresses the social, environmental and economical issues that are at play in the soy / fruit sectors world-wide. Secondly, you need to examine whether the solution is viable for a brand owner to adopt or join (in terms of availability, costs and implementation). Furthermore, you need to assess whether the solution is reliable and recognized by experts in the field.
