ICCO is the strategic partner of Fairfood

A world without poverty and injustice - that is our mission. As ICCO, the inter-church organisation for development cooperation, we consider it important to join forces. For this reason, we work closely together with Fairfood, and have done so for the past six years.

Fair world trade

How does this work? For example, ICCO focuses on making world trade fairer – a shared objective. By jointly initiating actions, campaigns and other activities, we endeavour to make politics, people and business more aware of their roles in fair trade. An example: Last spring, ICCO and Fairfood managed to drum up a group of MPs and had them mix up ‘fair’ cocktails. The event made headlines.

Working together

Other examples of the way we work together are the Fairfood FairShare Initiative, the Fairfood Coalition Against Hunger and the cocktail shake publicity stunt. By sharing knowledge, ideas and financial means we contribute to the expansion of fair products - an important means for farmers to sell their products at decent prices.

ICCO is active in the Netherlands and in developing countries

We are ardent advocates of economic independence for farmers. ICCO is traditionally active in developing countries, fighting poverty and hunger, advancing human rights and effectuating sustainable economic development. In the Netherlands, ICCO is working with – among others - the Max Havelaar Foundation and the Fair Trade Shops to make unfair trade fairer and prompt Dutch consumers to buy fair-trade products.

We yearly receive some 130 million Euro from both the Dutch and the European authorities to further our work. In addition, we are funded by the organizations participating in our alliance. We annually account for the way we spend these funds both to the authorities and to the public.

ICCO runs 1300 projects

ICCO runs 1300 projects in countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean. Our core objective is always to help people in developing countries assure a dignified existence, which is a human right.
