Fair versus Unfair

Usually, the population in developing countries barely earn something from her agricultural products, while Western companies gain the most profit. You can hardly argue about this being unfair. The only problem is that you can't tell by looking at a product whether it causes or solves hunger and poverty in developing countries.

Fairness

That is why Fairfood wants to make it a bit easier for the consumer. Supermarket products are being evaluated on their fairness and the results of this will be accessible to everyone on the Fairfood website. In this way, consumers can make a conscious decision when it comes to fair and unfair articles. Fairfood marks a product as fair when its sustainability is above average or when it makes more progress than its competitors. At the same time, Fairfood keeps a close watch on the progression of these products. An unfair product that shows a structural improvement with regard to the eradication of hunger will still be labelled fair. But when it is impossible to get the necessary data for an evaluation, a product will score unfair.

Fairness solutions

Fairfood not only evaluates products but is also actively thinking about fairness solutions. A group of motivated researchers and specialists work together on these Solutions. With the support of the public, companies and politics, Fairfood wants to stimulate the producers to use these Solutions. In that way, in the end an unfair product can become fair.
