Fairfood not only evaluates products, but also offers solutions by forming a bridge between food and beverage companies and the supply of sustainable solutions. Sometimes these solutions can be linked to labels, sometimes to other successful sustainability initiatives. This page describes a few solutions and initiatives which can help companies make their products more sustainable.

Fairfood offers a variety of different solutions in four categories: certification labels, sector-specific / multistakeholder solutions, corporate programs and subject-specific solutions.

Certification labels:

Visible labels often assure consumers that best practices lie behind the production of some nationally and internationally traded food and beverage products. Consumers of such products often rely on labels to reassure them that the process of producing these products has respected principles of social, ecological and economic fairness. Rainforest Alliance, EKO, Max Havelaar, UTZ Certified, Cert-ID ProTerra

Corporate programs:

Although some leading food and beverage companies depend on known certification labels, others have begun to make inroads into handling the pressures from both their customers and NGOs by establishing corporate responsibility programs/ initiatives that enhance the sustainability level of their products. Tesco Nature’s choice, Starbucks C.A.F.E Practices

Sector / Multi-stakeholder initiatives:

More recently, initiatives from a sector perspective have evolved; whereby, multistakeholders as well as private sector bodies develop voluntary standards / principles for addressing ethical trade and sustainable agricultural practices within the agro-food industry. The Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C), Roundtable for Responsible Soy (RTRS)

Subject-specific initiatives:

Several initiatives have also been developed that focus on specific issues relating to sustainability and ethical trade. Some initiatives specifically deal with social issues; while others cover environmental management, Health and Safety in workplaces or Corruption exclusively. Corruption initiatives
