Basel Soy is soy that meets the so-called 'Basel criteria’. These criteria concern the environment as well as labour conditions. They were set up In Switzerland in 1996 as a result of the huge consequences of the increase in soy growing in various countries. The main problems in the soy sector are deforestation and human injustice.

The application of Basel Soy is growing worldwide. Cert-ID, an American certifying agency, has set up a certification standard which incorporates the "Basel Criteria" are incorporated. In Brazil, two large suppliers are already selling certified soy: Imcopa and Caramurú.

Fairfood in relation to Basel Soy
Through its annual product investigation, Fairfood asks various brand owners a number of questions. When assessing products carrying the Basel Soy certification, brand owners no longer have to answer some of these questions. For instance, such as questions on labour conditions, child labour, recycling and air pollution. Click here for the exact content of these questions.

Fairfood considers the use of Basel Soy to be a good solution for increasing product sustainability. Fairfood is currently campaigning to make as many companies as possible buy Basel Soy for their cattle. Roodbol & Guliker and Kwetters have already complied with this request.
