Skal certifies organic products with the EKO certification when they meet its criteria. The purpose of this certification is to create a means of recognition for the consumer. Each year, Skal investigates organic farms and factories to see if products are allowed to keep their organic status. In addition, they investigate all links in the chain. For instance, organic farmers are not allowed to use chemical pesticides. Click here for more information.

Fairfood in relation to EKO
Through the annual product investigation, Fairfood asks brand owners a number of set questions. Part of the questions are already answered positively by the certification EKO, for instance questions on environmentally responsible packaging, the application of technologies and procedures to produce in a more environmentally friendly way and the fight against ecological threats to food security. Click here for the exact content of these questions.

When assessing products carrying the EKO logo, brand owners no longer have to answer these questions anymore.  For Fairfood, EKO certification contributes to product sustainability in two ways. Firstly, aspiration to obtain the certification automatically raises sustainability scores. Secondly, processing EKO certified products increases production sustainability.
