Time for action! |
After months of insisting, most chocolate producers still refuse to be open about their production processes, despite the many problems in the industry. Severe forms of child labour such as dangerous work or forced labour are among them. This is why Fairfood joined forces with Stop the Traffik and came into action. Tuesday 18 December, cardboard-kids have been demonstrating on the central square just in front of the Dutch Parliament in The Hague. Their picture was a striking one and featured in many national newspapers the day after. That same morning, an advert had been posted in a national newspaper, criticizing two chocolate-makers in particular. As a consequence, they have both contacted Fairfood by now, and appointments have been made. To be continued, we’ll keep you posted! Visit the Fairfood website for more information about the Fairfood publicity stunt. |

Come on and shake! |
| Wednesday 16 January, Fairfood will be shaking cocktails at the European Dreams festival in the Melkweg venue in Amsterdam. The festival aims to promote the debate on Europe through music, debate, comedy, workshops, interviews, and film. Fairfood was asked to join the fun and couldn’t refuse. We’ll be there shaking our exotic and fair cocktails. Among the speakers will be ex-Minister for development Jan Pronk and current Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner. Music will be playing from Ellen ten Damme, Leaf and Typhoon, among others. For the entire programme, check: www.europeandreams.nl. |

Eelco Fortuijn changes hats |
|
A new time has come for Fairfood. After five years of impressive growth, Fairfood has established itself as an authority on the fairness of food. Founder Eelco Fortuijn’s child has grown up. This is why Eelco has decided to change his hat of general director for one that says founder/advisor. From 1 January 2008, Eelco will still be fully available to Fairfood for at least half a year, after which he will start exploring new horizons. As a consequence, Frank van der Linde, now managing director, will become Fairfood's new director from 1 January 2008. |
