Fairfood is an Amsterdam-based non-profit organisation that envisions a fair & sustainable food system able to adequately produce and provide nutritious food for everyone in a way that preserves the environment and natural resources for future generations, respects human rights and secures a thriving economy for all, thereby contributing to ending hunger and poverty.

It is Fairfood’s mission to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable people, such as smallholder farmers, workers (especially women) and consumers in our food system and to ensure the sustainable production and consumption of food, by influencing the policies and practices of global food and beverage companies and governments.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program

The OSH Programme is an advocacy campaign aimed at ensuring more sustainable production practices within the sugarcane industry in Central America, targeting both multinational corporations as well as Dutch, EU and Central American governments.

Purpose of the position:

As a Campaign Researcher – OSH you will have a versatile position, working with a wide variety of research related to the food industry and public policies. The topics will be related to the Trade Association Agreement between the EU and Central America, public policy engagement with the Dutch and EU governments, and labour standards related to Occupational Health and Safety. Your research will directly give input to the campaign activities of the OSH Program, thereby helping us to implement our campaign. Your work may also include small tasks assisting the campaign managers. The position will allow you to get first-hand experience in campaigning.

Position within the organisation:

As a Campaign Researcher – OSH, you will be working under the direct supervision of the OSH team and in close collaboration with the members of the OSH team. Our team is results-oriented, fun, young and dynamic and we would be very happy to count you with us.

Competences:

You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English • Being able to work in Spanish is an asset • You are able to work independently, and often flexibly, but are also a team player • You are analytical, quality focused, result-oriented, and able to work within agreed deadlines • You have affinity with Fairfood’s goals.

Knowledge and Experience:

You are studying or have graduated from a higher education institution (HBO) or university, or have acquired an equivalent level of working and thinking through professional experience.• A degree in public policy, international relations, international development studies or sustainable development is preferable • Knowledge of the food and beverage industry is also an advantage.

We value our volunteers to whom we offer reimbursement of home-work travel as well as lunch when they are in the office. We also fully recognize that flexibility in your working hours might be important for you.

Weekly hours: 20 hours to 32 hours a week

Duration: Four months with the possibility of renewal, starting as soon as possible.
