Fairfood is happy to announce that Jason Glaser, co-founder of our partner La Isla Foundation (LIF), has been selected as one of five Global Leaders for the Tällberg Foundation Global Leadership Prize 2015. The prize, including a cash award of $50,000, will be awarded to two individuals during a special awards ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on 11 November 2015.

Tällberg Foundation Global Leadership Prize

The Tällberg Foundation Global Leadership Prize is awarded annually to two individuals or organisations who have demonstrated principled courage and willingness to confront the conventional wisdom in ways that have the potential to effect significant, positive societal change. The five Global Leaders were selected by an international jury from more than 200 nominations drawn from 56 countries. Alan Stoga, Chairman of the Tällberg Foundation stated “these extraordinary Global Leaders demonstrate the effective, courageous and innovative leadership can overcome even the most seemingly intractable issues.”

Jason Glaser and La Isla Foundation

Jason Glaser is the co-founder of La Isla Foundation (LIF), an international research and policy NGO working at the intersection of public health and human rights to address the fatal epidemic of Chronic Kidney Disease of non-traditional causes (CKDnT) in Latin America. This relatively unknown disease is associated with heavy labour in hot temperatures and chronic dehydration, as well as exposure to pesticides, and is prevalent among agricultural workers, especially sugarcane workers.
