Project Assistant Politicians

What is Fairfood?
Fairfood is a non-profit campaign and lobby organisation which encourages and enables consumers to eat and drink fair products. These are products whose production and trade contribute to the eradication of hunger and poverty in developing countries, and to the sustainability of production chains. In short: eat fair, beat hunger

Campaign & Lobby
The Campaign & Lobby department is responsible for selling the Fairfood message to four different target groups: food and beverage brand owners; food and beverage resellers (like restaurants or caterers); politicians and consumers in the Netherlands as well as abroad. Furthermore, the Campaign & Lobby department is responsible for strengthening Fairfood's base. These projects are led by five paid project leaders, each with the help of two to four unpaid project assistants.

What are the responsibilities of the Project Assistant Politicians?
The project Politicians consists of two main activities: 1. to provide tangible political support for Fairfood, and 2. to engage in the lobby toward regulatory measures with the aim of increasing the sustainability of food production. For the second half of 2008, two main concrete activities are planned: 1. recording video messages of British and German national politicians, and 2.organizing a political debate in Brussels, in cooperation with a local partner-organization. As a Project Assistant Politicians, you will closely participate in the planning, organization, and execution of the above mentioned activities. Your activities will include the following:

  • doing desk research on possible lobby targets;
  • collaborating with the Project Leader on the realization of the activities;
  • contacting politicians' offices by e-mail and phone;
  • making travel arrangements;
  • drafting letters and invitations to politicians possibly participating in the activities;

Qualifications

  • Minimal higher education (HBO) working- and thinking level
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in Dutch and English
  • Knowledge of German is a plus
  • Knowledge of the European political climate is a plus
  • Able to work well both independently and within a team
  • Affinity with Fairfood’s goals
  • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility is a plus

What do we offer?
A versatile position in an enthusiastic and fun team. We do not pay you any wages or allowances. However we offer you a free lunch and reimburse travel expenses.
For Fairfood, unpaid employees are equally important as paid employees. They receive the same employee accompaniment (e.g. progress meetings) and the same possibilities as paid employees.
